LAS CRUCES - Warren Levi Oswalt of Las Cruces, NM (Formerly of Iowa).
September 23, 1943 - January 22, 2025.
Warren Oswalt, a man of incredible kindness, unshakable work ethic, and boundless curiosity passed away suddenly on January 22, 2025, at the age of 81. Warren’s impact was quiet yet profound.
Born in Michigan, to Maxwell and Anna Oswalt, Warren Levi and his identical twin brother Walter Lewis , shared an unbreakable bond that spanned more than eight decades. Inseparable from birth, they were true peas in a pod, dressing alike, finishing each other’s sentences and walking through life side by side. Warren’s sudden passing, peaceful and without pain, occurred with Walt and the dogs at his side.
Warren was blessed with a curious mind and a voracious appetite for learning. Although he never touched a computer; he was the human equivalent of Google, there was no topic he couldn’t discuss with knowledge and insight. His insatiable love of reading and intelligent conversation were matched only by his interest in the lives and stories of others.
On St Patrick’s day 1979, Warren married Mary Suzanne Smith, and they joyfully welcomed their daughter, Nicole Suzanne in 1982. Warren’s pride in his daughter was immeasurable and he never hesitated to tell her how much he loved her. He and his twin “Uncle Walt” were her huge cheerleaders showing up for every recital, concert, swim meet, and parent conference despite the long hours they spent working the farm.
Warren spent most of his life in Iowa on the family farm, other than two years in the Army at the White Sands Missile Range, before he and Walt returned to New Mexico in 2018 to be close to his daughter, Nicole, her husband, Robert Garcia and his beloved grand-dogs. He and Walt were warmly embraced by the Garcia family and made many friends.
Warren will be deeply missed by his daughter Nicole Garcia, his twin brother Walter Oswalt, son-in-law Robert, the Garcia family, former wife Mary Suzanne Kirchner and the many people who were touched by his kindness.
Nicole writes: “I will mourn the wonderful man my dad was, but I find comfort knowing he’s always with me through the memories we shared. He loved me so completely, and I never had to wonder if he was proud of me. I inherited so much from him; my tender heart, my love of animals, and my gift of gab. He worked harder than anyone should have to, but he never let that stop him from showing up for the people he loved. I hope you’ll keep my Uncle Walt in your prayers.”
According to Warren’s wishes, there will be no public service. Memorial contributions may be directed to your local animal shelter. Family and friends are invited to please share their thoughts, memories, and condolences via www. getzfuneralhome.com
