Warren Thompson Obituary

Emmett Warren Thompson of Macon, Georgia, died peacefully in his home on March 24, 2026.

Born on December 18, 1954, in Cookeville, Tennessee, he began life with his loving parents, Bill and Jane Thompson. From the start, Warren was adventurous, sassy, loving, and on the go. While he was young, the Thompson family moved to Pensacola, Florida, where Warren spent his childhood days and formative teenage years.

Warren attended Auburn University in Auburn, Alabama, from 1973 to 1977, where he studied hard and made many friends. Warren loved the university and remained a life-long fan, ready to talk to anyone and everyone about Auburn football at any time. War Eagle!

After graduating from college, Warren moved to New York City, where he worked in the import and export industry. While in New York, Warren’s passion for fitness grew, as did his love of the spotlight. This led to Warren hosting his very own T.V. show, a fitness program broadcast across the city. Warren became somewhat of a local celebrity, running into fans on the busy streets.

As the mid-eighties arrived, Warren made a move to Atlanta, Georgia, where he very quickly became the life of the party. It was during this time that Warren would meet his future husband, Bill Murphy, for the very first time. The two were introduced at a club in Atlanta. However, Bill was uninterested in dating at the time, leaving the two as friends for the time being.

As the eighties drew to a close, Warren moved back to his hometown of Pensacola to care for his beloved aging parents. Warren would spend the next thirty-plus years dutifully and lovingly caring for his mom and dad while continuing his career in fitness.

By the magic of the internet, Bill Murphy and Warren Thompson were reunited on the World Wide Web in 2019. This time, Bill was interested, and the two embarked on a long-distance relationship and engagement while Warren continued to care for his father until the end of his life in the spring of 2022.

Bill and Warren were married in Mentone, Alabama, during a beautiful outdoor ceremony on July 18, 2022. Shortly after the wedding, Warren moved to Macon, where he lived with Bill until the end.

In addition to a deep devotion to family and friends, Warren loved to work out, read poetry, volunteer for the Hispanic community, and take weekend retreats to the peaceful cabin he and Bill shared in Mentone. His love for life was evident to anyone who had the pleasure of meeting him.

Warren is survived by his husband, Bill Murphy; his twin brother, Jim Thompson; and his cousins, Joyce Dobbs and Martha Smith.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, April 8, 2026, at 11 am at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church (753 College Street, Macon, GA). The Rev. Dr. Bryan Hinson will officiate. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the charity of your choice in memory of Warren.
