Washington "Dub" Fautheree
Washington Lee Fautheree, a steadfast soul whose life journey began in Rayville, Louisiana on September 21,1933, made his final departure from this world on September 7, 2025, in Converse, Texas. He was the third child of four children to the parents of Mr. Ledell and Mrs. Gladys Fautheree. Washington was affectionately known as Dub by his loving family and friends.
Dub lived a life defined by his loving and caring nature, his happiness that was contagious, and his deep devotion to his family. Dub's spirit was one of joy and warmth. He touched the lives of many through his kindness, always ready with a comforting word or a helping hand.
At the age of nineteen, in February 1953, Dub decided to serve his country and travel the world. He enlisted into the United States Air Force and honorably retired in 1993. During his enlistment, he served at James Connally AFB, Waco, Texas, Kelly AFB,
San Antonio, Texas, Clark AFB, Angeles City, Philippines, two tours in Vietnam, Moffett AFB, Santa Clara, California, before retiring on April 30, 1973, at Randolph AFB,
San Antonio, Texas.
As an outstanding Aircraft Mechanic, Dub had the privilege of being aircraft mechanic on the Douglas AC-47 airplane, known as "Puff, the Magic Dragon", a fixed-wing gunship serving in the Vietnam War. The plane was designed to provide more firepower than light and medium ground attack in certain situations when ground forces called for closed air support.
Dub also supported the Fairchild C-123 Provider, as a mechanic, a versatile miliary aircraft that played a significant role in air operations, particularly during the Vietnam War. The plane was often referred to as the "Thunder Pig" extensively used in airlifting troops and supplies to remote locations.
After his glory days in the Air Force, Dub was employed with the San Antonio Baptist Medical Health System for twenty-three (23) as a Biomedical Technician. Dub was presented with awards, being so humble for his invaluable dedication, equipment knowledge, and outstanding professionalism.
During his leisure time, he enjoyed watching LSU sporting events, fishing, and fostering family gatherings. Being with family and friends, storytelling, sharing laughter, and love were his heartbeat.
Dub was preceded in Glory by his beloved wife, Mina; parents, and three siblings, Harold, Douglas, and Maxine. Left to honor his memory, son, Jeff Fautheree; daughter, Melissa (Mark) Yevak, grandson, Dylan Yevak; bonus grandchildren, Desirée, and Clint; special niece and caregiver, Carrie Fautheree, other loving relatives, and friends like you.
Dub deeply respected the enduring unions of two beloved couples Rick & Gloria Edwards and Jimmy & Lisa Burns), alongside the same bond of his own children, seeing them as a reflection of the values he held dearly with love, loyalty, and lifelong companionship.
Dub's departure leaves a significant void, but his legacy of kindness, laughter, and love endures. In these shared moments, we honor a noble gentleman. Washington Lee Fautheree's spirit lives on in the hearts of all he touched.
