Waymon Allen Askin, Jr. was born to the union of Rosemarie and Waymon Allen Askin, Sr. in Detroit, Michigan, on January 28, 1961. He was the eldest and only son of two siblings. His parents, Rosemarie and Waymon Sr., preceded him in death.
Waymon attended Detroit Public Schools, and after high school, he discovered his passion for cooking. He worked in various restaurants and casinos, doing what he loved until his health began to decline. Despite these challenges, he embraced a second career as a driver for Stellantis NV (Chrysler) and Ford Motor Company, where he continued to share his hardworking and cheerful spirit.
Waymon met the love of his life, Kelley, when they were kids, but their journey as a couple officially began on August 19, 1994. For over 30 years, they were soulmates, truly inseparable through life's joys and challenges, including Waymon's brave battles with cancer. He would proudly share that he beat cancer three times and had been cancer-free for seven years, thanks to a life-saving stem cell transplant from his beloved sister.
Together, Waymon and Kelley found joy in life's simple pleasures, from singing and dancing in the kitchen to traveling to new places. Their adventures took them on cruises and spontaneous getaways, often in the company of their closest friends, deepening their bond. Waymon's heart of gold, candid nature, and vibrant personality made him the life of the party, and anyone who met him couldn't help but love him.
Family and friends were the cornerstone of Waymon's life. He enjoyed impromptu gatherings, lively game nights, and the laughter that filled the air-a true celebration of the love and joy that defined his life.
On Saturday, October 19, 2024, after a courageous four-month battle with a new diagnosis of leukemia, Waymon grew weary, and the angels came to take him to be with his parents and other loved ones who had gone before him.
Waymon leaves to cherish his memory his beloved Kelley Penay; his three children, Waymon Allen III (Lisa), Lindsay Nichole (Marie), and Amber; two bonus daughters, Keeley Monet and Kiaira Shanee (Danniale); his grandchildren, Julian, Royce, and Jade; his sister, Tonya Renee (Michael); his niece, Ariel Meisha (Rubin), and great-niece Ira Rose; three uncles, George, Michael (Patricia), and Marshal Mullen; and a host of cousins and friends.
