Wayne Allen Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Knowlton & Hewins Funeral Home - Augusta on Jan. 13, 2026.
Whitefield – Wayne passed away peacefully with his loving and devoted wife Paula by his side on Tuesday, January 7, 2026 on the SCU Unit at the Togus VA Hospital. Wayne was born at Gardiner General in April of 1960 to the late Arlene & Sanford Allen. He went to local schools and then joined the Army in 1977, he was stationed in Germany and was discharged in 1979.

He loved his Tonka trucks and worked in construction all his life. He was a good truck driver and an excellent heavy equipment operator. He considered himself a "dirt bag". Wayne loved playing in the dirt whether doing a house lot, driveway, pond etc. He worked for McGee Construction for a long time before moving onto CCC Construction, where he worked until he was forced into early retirement due to health issues.

Wayne enjoyed snowmobiling, four wheeling, playing cards, taking road trips, talking on the phone with friends and family, hanging out in his garage and watching Westerns.

He was always willing to help someone in need and was truly one of a kind. Wayne and Paula were together for thirty years and for their 25th they went to the Dude Ranch in New York where he had the time of his life. He always knew she had his back regardless of what the situation was. When his health started to decline Paula was his caretaker along with his best friend.

Wayne was predeceased by his parents Arlene Gervais and Sanford Allen, his two baby boys, his brother Tom Allen, his nephew Christopher Thompson, his in-laws Ed and Mary Emerson, brother in-laws Earl Noury, Alex Cummings, Peter Leach, Paul Emerson and Pat Emerson. Lots of family members and friends along with Steve, Ted, Reggie and Vinni just to name a few.

He is survived by his loving wife Paula (Emerson) Allen, his children, son Jesse of Virginia, daughter Sarah and her children Co'Chice, Katie, Kacie, and Justin of New York and his bonus daughter Kodi and her daughter Marissa of Maine. His sisters Sandra and husband Tom, Charlene and husband Chuck and Barbara and husband Slater and brother Jeff and wife Merlene, in-laws Tammy and husband Ray, Eddie, and Lisa. Aunts Phyllis, Susie, Noreen and Merleen, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and lots of friends and his emotional support dog Chase.

Paula would like to thank the whole care team that took such wonderful care of Wayne during his hospitalization. You all went above and beyond and it didn't go unnoticed.

Visiting hours will be at Knowlton & Hewins 1 Church Street Augusta. Viewing from 11-12 and funeral at 12 on Saturday, January 17, 2026. Following there will be a celebration of life at American Legion Post 2 Capitol Street in Augusta.
