Beginning with his employment at Ford in 1960, he led an engineering team to develop and improve upon the float glass process to manufacture flat glass. As a result of this work, he holds several patents for this manufacturing

process and has led each succeeding company he worked for to becoming leaders in flat glass manufacture. As a result, Iowa State University awarded Wayne the Professional Achievement Citation in Engineering, June, 1989.
