Wayne Battoe Obituary

Wayne G. Battoe
January 21, 1934 - February 10, 2021
O'Fallon, Illinois - Wayne G. Battoe, of O'Fallon, IL, born January 21, 1934 in Belleville, IL, passed away peacefully on Friday, February 10, 2021.
As a young adult, Wayne enjoyed sports, proudly serving as Team Captain of the O'Fallon High School basketball team. He also worked part time at Schildknecht Funeral Home and in the maintenance department for Wherry Housing at Scott Air Force Base. Wayne also enjoyed a 20-year career at Prudential Insurance as an Agent then Sales Manager, followed by a 20-year career in real estate as an Agent then Broker/Owner of award-winning Century 21 Battoe office serving the Belleville and O'Fallon communities. He served as the President of the Belleville Board of Realtors in 1989. Wayne was a proud father and grandfather, and cherished these relationships, along with those business relationships from his careers in insurance and real estate. In his free time, he enjoyed unique cars and owned some cars that were his pride and joy, in particular his Lincolns. Wayne also enjoyed tackling home projects, boating at Lake Kinkaid, watching St. Louis Cardinal baseball (Stan Musial was his favorite), and gathering at outdoor summer barbecues with his family. Since he preferred warmer weather, Wayne's retirement often included an escape from the cold winters of Illinois to the life of a snowbird at Madeira Beach, Florida, where he enjoyed spending time with his snowbird flock, along with his brother Bill.
Wayne was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph A. Battoe Sr. and Katie, nee Schildknecht; his brothers Ralph (Mary Ellen) Battoe Jr, Robert "Bob" Battoe, and William "Bill" (Martha) Battoe; his sister Frances "Francie" (Phil) Schildknecht, and his brother-in-law William "Bill" Barth. He is survived by his dear friend and companion of 9 years, Jo Ann Berry; his five children, Debbie (Andy) Hollenkamp of Shiloh, IL, Sharie (Mark) Meyer of Glen Carbon, IL, Ken Battoe of Belleville, IL, Margie (Dale) Korte of Belleville, IL, and Linda Bettis of Swansea, IL; his grandchildren, Ashley Carter, Courtney Bettis, Kristina Bettis, Mike (Deana) Hollenkamp, and Lisa (Bob) Wright; his great-grandchildren, Maycn Carter, Gavin Hollenkamp, and Lydia Hollenkamp; his sister Nina Barth; his sisters-in-law Carol (Bob) Battoe and Darlene (Bill) Battoe; and his many nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to O'Fallon United Church of Christ.

Sharie, so sorry to hear about the loss of your Dad. Thoughts and prayers with you and your family. I didn't realize you were related to Carol, we shared an office at Belleville East years ago. My sympathy to you also, Carol.
