Wayne Black Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Fox & Weeks Funeral Directors - Hodgson Chapel on May 31, 2024.
Wayne A. Black, 76, died peacefully on Wednesday, May 29, 2024 at Memorial Hospital Heart and Vascular Institute in Savannah, Georgia. He was surrounded by his wife and two children.
Wayne was born in Trenton, New Jersey, the first son of Alfred and Helen (Stillwell) Black. He grew up in Hamilton Square, graduated from Steinert High School and joined the United States Navy. Wayne served on the U.S.S. Everglades and the U.S.S. Boston, performing two tours of duty during the Vietnam War.
In 1975, Wayne married Marilyn Ott. They relocated to New Hampshire and had two children. He graduated from St. Anselm College in 1984 and pursued a career in Law Enforcement that spanned 38 years, serving the towns of Wolfeboro, Ossipee, Moultonborough, and Carroll County.
Wayne was very involved in his community of Tuftonboro, New Hampshire. He was a member of the town's Budget Committee, chaired the winter ski program at the elementary school, chaperoned countless school field trips, was a Merit Badge Counselor with Boy Scouts of America, and judged the Odyssey of the Mind Competition. He loved being a private pilot and flying his own plane, snow skiing, boating, camping with his family, fishing, and computers.
In addition to his wife, Marilyn, he leaves behind his son, Jason Black, his daughter, Carey Schwartzburt (Joseph); three grandchildren Gavin, Fable, and Piper; sister Lori Bixby (Brian) of Pahrump, Nevada; brother Brian Black (Nancy) of Wolfeboro, NH; brother Glenn Black (Linda) of Columbus, NJ; aunt Janet Krier (John) of Cincinnati, Ohio and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He was predeceased by his parents, his brother, Gary Black (Debbie); and sister, Bonnie Parks (David).
Wayne touched many lives and will be sorely missed by his family. He adored his three precious grandchildren. His family would like to express their appreciation to the professionals at the Heart and Vascular ICU who treated him with such care and respect, to his friends Jim and Becky Ulm who were his biggest cheerleaders during his illness, and to Reverand Benton C. Martin who has been a friend to Wayne and a comfort to us all.
Visitation will be from 10:00 until 11:00, on Thursday, June 6, 2024, followed by a memorial service at 11:00, at Fox and Weeks Funeral Directors Hodgson Chapel, 7200 Hodgson emorial Drive in Savannah. Burial will follow at 1:00 at the Beaufort National Cemetery, 1601 Boundary Street, Beaufort, South Carolina.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that you consider a donation in Wayne's memory to the Scholarship Fund, Eli's Place, the Early Learning Center of Wesley Monumental UMC, 429 Abercorn Street, Savannah, GA 31401.

Marilyn, Jason, and Carey, we are so sad to hear of Wayne's passing. Wayne was our neighbor and friend for over 20 years in Tuftonboro. We have so many fun memories: halloween parties, skiing, swimming at Club Melvin, and just hanging out. Wayne had a great sense of humor and loved to laugh. He was a loyal and true family man and will be missed. Rest in Peace

There was a time when Wayne, a.k.a. Blacky, were as closer than brothers. He and Linda were our (Brenda & me) our best friends and next-door neighbors. It breaks my heart to know that he is gone. Our prayers and condolences go out to Linda and Charles and the rest of his family and loved ones. Such very sad news.
