Wayne Burdette Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Smith Funeral Home-Keyser Chapel on Oct. 18, 2022.
Wayne Lee Burdette, 75 of Hawk Street, Rawlings, MD, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Thursday, October 13, 2022 at UPMC-Western Maryland, Cumberland, MD.
Born on July 8, 1947 in Cumberland, MD, he was a son of the late Twilla Burdette and William H. Diehl. He later was adopted by Thomas William Burdette who loved him dearly as his own son. He also was preceded in death by three sisters, Willa Jean Clark Baker, Georgianna Rexrode Liller and Nancy Brill; two brothers, William Parley Deihl and Jim Bob Diehl; a brother-in-law, Chester Lease; uncles, Carmel Bosley, Lake Bosley, Pete Bosley, Gail Bosley, Jake Green and Elwood Green and an aunt, Ruth Waybright.
Wayne was one of God's special children who brought joy and happiness to all who he knew. He was born into this world being deaf and crippled and in later years, became blind, but he never let anything stop him from being happy and giving happiness to all he knew. He liked playing practical jokes and he loved a good Western movie where the good guys always won. Wayne was never without his camera and loved taking selfies with people. Over the years, Wayne attended the Sunland School in Marianna, FL and the Evergreen School and Friends Aware, both in Cumberland where he worked in the wood shop for a number of years. In his retirement, he enjoyed day trips to shop and going swimming. He loved being out and about town and never met a stranger. He also never met an animal he didn't want to bring home.
Surviving is his loving sister, guardian and caretaker who loved him dearly, Linda Lou Lease of Rawlings; a special aunt, Donna Lee Smith and her son, Francis "Robert" Smith; aunts, Lillian Twigg and husband Richard, Darlene Jarin and husband Roger and Marge Bosley.
Friends will be received at the Smith Funeral Home, Keyser Chapel, on Thursday, October 20, 2022 from 2-4 p.m.
A funeral service will be conducted immediately following the visitation at 4:00 p.m.
Inurnment will be in the Potomac Memorial Gardens, Keyser.
The family wishes to thank the following for their special care and compassion during Wayne's last days: Francis "Robert" Smith, Chris Clauze and husband Bill, the Cresaptown Volunteer Fire Department, ARC of Frederick County, Atlas Care Connect, Renee, Kelsey, Bridget, Sierra, Cindy, Ginger, Tracey, Bethany, Tish and all his nurses and physical therapists.
