Wayne Edward Crance, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully at his home in Churubusco on December 29, 2025 at the age of 91. He was born on October 18, 1934 in Allen County, to the late Eugene Wayne and Ethel Lutheria (Buelow) Crance. Wayne lived a life rich with love, family and community, and his legacy will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew him.
Wayne was a proud graduate of Churubusco where he completed his education in 1952. He married the love of his life, Joan Carter, on November 20, 1954. Their union of 65 years was a testament to their deep love and commitment to each other. Together, they created a warm and welcoming home filled with laughter and cherished memories. Wayne was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Joan, as well as his daughter Jodi and grandson Jason, who will forever be missed, and a sister Phyllis Barnhart.
Wayne's family was his pride and joy. He is survived by his two sons, Scotty (Tammy) of Columbia City and Todd (Jeri) of LaOtto. Wayne took immense joy in his grandchildren, Carrie (Joseph) Marks, Crista (Jarrod) Krider, and Kayla Crance, and was blessed with great grandchildren, Brant (Breanna) Marks, Wyatt Marks, Holyn and Hayden Krider. His heart swelled with love for his great great grandchild, Copeland Marks, embodying the joy of generations that would carry on his spirit.
Wayne spent 33 years of his working life at Peter Eckrich & Son meat plant in Fort Wayne until its closure, after which he retired from Dexter Axle in Albion. His strong work ethic and dedication were evident in every task he undertook, and he was respected and admired by his colleagues.
An active member of the community, Wayne was proud to be part of the Sons of the American Legion in Churubusco. He enjoyed hobbies that brought him closer to nature, including fishing, hunting for morel mushrooms, and tending to his cherished rose garden. Wayne had a unique ability to engage in conversation with anyone, making friends easily with his kind heart and warm smile, He was often found attending his grandchildren's sporting events cheering them on with pride and enthusiasm.
As we gather to celebrate Wayne's remarkable life, we reflect on the countless memories he created with family and friends. His kindness, strength, and unwavering love have left an indelible mark on all who knew him.
Wayne Edward Crance, a man who cherished his family and community, will be deeply missed but never forgotten. His spirit will live on in the hearts of his loved ones, and his legacy will shine bright for generations to come.
A graveside service will be held at a later date at the Blue River Cemetery.
