Wayne Lyle “Doc” Melby was born on May 5, 1956, in Pisgah, Iowa to Willard and Rowana (TenEyck) Melby. He grew up in Dunlap and graduated from Dunlap High School in 1974. After graduation, Doc followed in his family’s footsteps doing concrete, drywall and roofing work. In 2001 he obtained his real estate license and started working for NP Dodge Real Estate. This job turned into his passion as he could purchase properties that needed work done to them and rebuild them into homes, which he did nine times in Dunlap. Doc was blessed with two daughters, Melinda and Tiffany.
Doc was a member of the St. John Lutheran Church, the Dunlap Historical Society, Dunlap Fire Department and DCDC. Doc loved the Denver Broncos, fast cars, playing golf and watching tv. He owned a carwash in Dunlap, where the CHI Medical Clinic now sits.
Doc died on Saturday, March 23, 2024, at his home in Dunlap, surrounded by his family, at the age of 67 years, 10 months and 18 days.
Doc was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Connie in 1968; and brother, David “Elmer” in 2003.
