Wayne Alfred Dreger, born on July 6, 1941, in Miltona Township, passed away peacefully on November 27, 2025, at Vivie Care Center with his loving daugher, Sandy by his side. He touched the lives of many and leaves behind a legacy filled with love, hard work, and a keen sense of humor.
Wayne’s journey in life began with his education at a country school before he transitioned to Parkers Prairie High School. His formative years were dedicated to both his education and helping on the family farm. His hands-on work ethic extended beyond business; during his younger years, he, along with his brothers and father, built cabinets and several homes, showcasing his creativity and craftsmanship. After this, he gained valuable experience working for Wedum’s Supply and Thompson Heating & Air Conditioning. In the late 1970s, Wayne took a bold step and started his own business, Dreger’s Heating & Air Conditioning, a venture he and his wife, Delores managed together until his retirement in July 2003.
Wayne was united in marriage to his first wife, Delores Spaeth, on April 21, 1960, at Our Lady of Seven Dolors Catholic Church. To this union three children were born, Kenneth, Sandra, and Brenda. Wayne often reminisced about their companionship and their love for dancing, a reflection of the deep bond they had. Wayne and Delores loved to travel to many destinations together and alongside family and friends. After Delores passed away in 2007, Wayne found happiness again with his second wife, Verda Denny, who passed away in July of 2025.
An avid lover of nature, Wayne found peace and excitement in hunting and fishing. He was not only a passionate businessman but also possessed a great sense of humor, which endeared him to those around him. His vibrant personality and zest for life will be remembered fondly.
Wayne is survived by his children, Ken (Sheri) Dreger, Sandra Wussow, and Brenda (Craig) Mariucci. He cherished his role as a grandfather to Amy, Tim, Jessie (Aaron), Adam, Paige, Erin (Nathan), and Megan, as well as a great-grandfather to five great-grandchildren. Additionally, he is remembered by several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who were all touched by his kindness and spirit.
Wayne is preceded in death by his beloved first wife, Delores, in 2007; his second wife, Verda, in 2025; his parents; and his brothers, Berdell and Harland, sister-in-law, Delrose, and son-in-law, Keith Wussow.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, December 11, 2025, from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM at St. Mary's Catholic Church with a Mass of Christian Burial at 1:00 PM. Burial will be at St. Mary's Cemetery in Alexandria.
Wayne Alfred Dreger will be dearly missed but will forever remain in the hearts of those who loved him. His life was a testament to love, family, and friendship, and his legacy will continue through his children and grandchildren. In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred to Hospice of Douglas County or St. Mary's Cemetery Perpetual Fund.
