Wayne Bryant Eldridge, DVM, passed away on February 26, 2026, after a long and courageous
battle with Parkinson's disease. Throughout every stage of his journey, Wayne approached each
new chapter with preparation, gratitude, and an unwavering commitment to embracing the next step. Wayne was born in
San Antonio, Tx January 11, 1948. He graduated from Lee High School, class of '66. He attended Texas A&M University receiving his Bachelor of Science, class of
1970 and Doctor of Veterinary Medicine in 1971. After graduation he served in the U.S. Air Force Veterinary Corps achieving the rank of Captain and receiving a commendation medal for his service. During his career spanning more than four decades, Wayne founded four veterinary hospitals and clinics in Texas including Eldridge Animal Hospital, Pets First Veterinary Center, Access Veterinary Care, and House Calls for Pets. He contributed to the profession as a speaker, innovator, and educator. His commitment to improving animal care led to innovations used by
veterinarians nationwide, and he authored The Best Pet Name Book Ever, sharing his humor and love of animals. Wayne was blessed with two children. Over the years his love and devotion as a father never waivered, and he considered his children and family his greatest gift. He is survived by his daughter, Lori Eldridge McCleary and grandson Owen Christopher Osborn. His son, Wayne "Bryant" Eldridge, wife Amanda and granddaughter Emery Eldridge. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Adelene Eldridge. He is survived by his brother, Gary E. Eldridge, and wife, Regina. A beloved uncle to Kati, Amanda & Samuel Eldridge, as well as his great-nephew, Justus Self. All with whom he shared his great love of animals. Sandra Hernandez came to know Wayne as his caregiver and quickly became his best friend, constant companion and biggest champion. She, as well as his phenomenal care team strove to help him live each day to the fullest. And he did. Never missing an opportunity for a gathering with his lunch group of devoted friends, visiting his grandson during his first year of college,
embarking upon wood working, and celebrating every holiday with fanfare. Per his wishes he will be cremated. His children, Lori McCleary and Bryant Eldridge, will host a casual gathering in his honor at a date to be announced. More than anything, Wayne will be remembered for the way he embraced life. He met each season of life with grace, holding close the people and passions that mattered most. His love for family, his dedication to his work, his generosity and his enduring sense of humor defined a life well lived. Though he will be greatly missed, his spirit lives on in the love he shared and the memories that will continue to bring comfort in the years to come. He will be deeply missed and always in our hearts.
