Wayne Harkey

Wayne Harkey, age 80 passed away on Tuesday February 20, 2024. He was born in Mecklenburg County and was the son of the late Albert and Lantie Abernathy Harkey. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife of 61 years Nancy Rhyne Harkey, as well as his sister Jo Rita Harkey, and brothers Houston and Ben Harkey.. Wayne proudly served his country in the U.S. Army and was retired from Duke Power after 40 plus years of service as an operations supervisor. Survivors include his sister in law JoAnne Harkey, as well as his special friends: Richard Medlin, and Kenny and Elizabeth Schronce.
A graveside service to celebrate his life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday February 26, 2024 at Hillcrest Gardens Cemetery, Mount Holly. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be sent to Hospice & Palliative Care Charlotte Region: PO Box 470408, Charlotte, NC 28247. Arrangements are in the care of Woodlawn Funeral Home of Mount Holly.
