Wayne Ronald Kalbow, 77, of Glen Ellyn, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 25, 2025. His dearest wife and best friend, Deborah Ann (née Cloke), his caring son Joshua, and Joshua's long-time partner, Angelia Mazzeratti, survive him. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lorraine and William Kalbow.
Wayne's story began in the close-knit community of Franklin Park, where he spent his youth exploring the neighborhood and making memories that would last a lifetime. A proud graduate of East Leyden High School, Wayne was the kind of kid who knew where to find the best bites-and that meant regular trips to Gene's & Jude's, where ten hot dogs and fries could be had for just a dollar. His love for tradition, good food, and a great deal started early and never left him.
Wayne lived life with humor, passion, and a mischievous charm that made him unforgettable. A lifelong fan of the Chicago Bears, Cubs, and Illini, he had a particular love for skiing, both in practice and teaching, through his employer's Skiing Club. He cherished the game of golf so much that he would have happily played every hole at Bushwood Country Club from Caddyshack every single day, right next to Ty Webb, if only life allowed.
Those who knew Wayne would know he often joked that his fraternity house was the inspiration for Animal House. He had a deep appreciation for camaraderie, good times, and well-timed jokes, which he had developed during his college days. In another world, he would have lived just down the street from The Blues Brothers, swapping stories, planning the next great adventure, and listening to great music.
Wayne's spirit lives on in the memories he created with friends and family. He brought laughter, loyalty, and a fearless zest for life to every room he entered.
A Memorial Gathering will be held on July 9, 2025, from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm (family remarks at 6:30) at Leonard Memorial Home, 565 Duane Street in Glen Ellyn. Instead of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Wayne's name to the Anderson Humane Society, the Midwest Greyhound Adoption, or the Democratic National Committee - three causes dear to his heart.

My first memories of "Catfish" were from his pitching days on our work softball team. However, the fondest memories are waking up to In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida blasting from the speakers in his cabin in Wild Rose. We had to wake up by the time the 17 minute song ended to make our tee time for the Caddy Shack golf outing after a very short night's sleep, since we had to close down the Ding. Too many stories to tell from those golf outings. I must now hang my head (a select few will get this reference)...
