Wayne Lewis, 62, of Reelsboro, NC, passed away at UNC Medical Center in Chapel Hill on Friday, November 28, 2025. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend, Wayne lived a life marked by hard work, quiet strength, and unwavering dedication to the people he loved.
Wayne was a member of First Baptist Church in Stacy, NC. His strong work ethic and leadership were evident throughout his career as a commercial fisherman. As the captain, he led not with words, but with example – working shoulder to shoulder with his crew, teaching with patience, and earning their respect through his integrity and experience. During the slower seasons on the water, Wayne continued to provide for his family by working shutdowns at various companies, including Nutrien, where he performed mechanical work and brought the same reliability and craftsmanship he showed at sea.
More than anything, Wayne treasured his family. He was a steady and loving presence – a husband who stood firm, a father who supported and guided, a grandfather who adored his grandchildren, and a friend whose loyalty never wavered.
He was preceded in death by his father, Willie B. Lewis; his mother, Rose Brooks Edwards; and his sister, Victoria Brooks.
Wayne is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Martha Lewis; his children, Amy Hott, Jeramy Lewis, Justin Lewis, and Mary Lewis (Damon Johnson); brothers, Adam Lewis and John-John; sister, Lisa Lewis; 10 grandchildren, Blake Toler, Naudia Lewis, Bladen Gibson, Camden Gibson, Kami Gibson, Cassidy Lewis, Landon Lewis, Baylee Lewis, Aria, and Sylas Johnson; and two great-grandchildren, Blakely and Huntley Toler.
A memorial service honoring Wayne’s life will be held at 7:00 p.m., on Wednesday, December 3rd at Daniels-Sadler Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Allen Stabley officiating.
The family will receive friends and relatives one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
