Wayne Lowery

Wayne Lowery, age 86, of Ellenboro, passed away Monday, December 15, 2025 at Hospice of the Carolina Foothills.

Wayne was born Thursday, June 15, 1939 in Chester County, SC to the late Thomas Hoyle Lowery and Alma Tomblin Lowery. As a toddler, Wayne suffered the adverse effects of Polio and was physically handicapped, but he never let any of his impediments discourage him from living a productive life. He attended Henrietta Elementary School and was a member of the last graduating class of Tri-High in 1959. He worked as a delivery man for Coca-Cola and later worked for thirty-five years at PPG as a Timekeeping Clerk before retirement. He enjoyed woodworking and built many items that he loved sharing with others. Wayne also was an expert at small engine repair. He always had a heart to help others. Wayne was a dedicated husband and supported the love of his life for fifty-eight years, Opal, as she served the Lord through her music ministry. He loved his family dearly and was so proud of his son, Brian. Wayne’s faith in God was evident in all of what he accomplished. He was a member of Caroleen Global Methodist Church and was recently attending Grace Baptist Church in Henrietta.

Those left to cherish his memory include his son, Brian and wife, Renee of Ellenboro; sister, Wilma Self (Steve) of Shelby and brothers, Bruce Lowery (Karen) of Ellenboro and Max Lowery of Henrietta.

The funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, December 17th at the Harrelson Funeral Chapel with Reverend Sam Henderson, Mr. “Jabo” Whitmire and Pastor Lanny J. Funchess officiating. Interment will follow at Holly Springs Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 pm on Tuesday at the funeral home.
