Norma Lowery Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Bowers Funeral Home - Houlton on Jan. 21, 2026.
MONTICELLO – Norma J. Lowery, age 102 years old, died peacefully at her Monticello home with her three children by her side on January 14, 2026. Norma was born in Mars Hill, Maine, on October 29, 1923, the daughter of Isaiah Benjamin and Vera Fulton Garrison.
Norma graduated from Mars Hill High School in 1942; however, she began her very first job at the age of 16 as a "Soda Jerk" at the Mars Hill Drugstore working weekends and summers. Her pretty face, beautiful smile, and engaging personality kept folks coming back for more ice cream!
After graduating from high school, Norma went to work at the Loring Airforce Base along with other young women to support the war effort. Norma worked long hours in the hangers in shipping and receiving loading and unloading supplies. When the war ended, Norma began working at the New England Telephone Company.
In 1944, Norma met Alexander George Lowery and they were married November 11, 1946, and moved to Monticello to begin their married life. Together they raised their three children. Norma is survived by her daughter Mary Jane Lowery and husband Maurice Merett and her two sons Peter and David Lowery of Monticello, two grandchildren Amanda Cox and Michael Lowery, five great grandchildren Abigail and Cody, Steven, Brandon, and Hunter Lowery, and a great great granddaughter.
Norma is predeceased in death by her parents Isaiah and Vera Garrison, husband Alexander George Lowery, and a brother Erwin Garrison.
Funeral services will be held on January 23, 2026, at Bowers Funeral Home, Houlton, Maine. Calling hours are from 11 am to 12 pm with the services starting at 12 noon. A light luncheon will be served following the service.
