Wayne J McLaren

Wayne J. McLaren, 72, of Eagle River Alaska left this world unexpectedly on July 12, 2024. Wayne was born in Durand Michigan on April 29, 1952 to Norman and Cathryn McLaren. He was the youngest of 7 siblings, Donald, Robert, Earl, Norma, Cathryn, and Shirley. Wayne enlisted in the Air Force in 1970 and served for 20 years retiring in Eagle River Alaska in 1994 as a Master Sargent. Wayne was a treasured member of the community, known by many for his charitable work with the Eagle River Lions Club and the Eagle River Elks Lodge where he found great joy in volunteering his time for many years. One of Wayne's most beloved roles in the community came every December when he would delight children and adults alike as Santa Claus.
Getting outside to go hunting and fishing was a beloved pastime of Wayne's, enjoying the bounty of Alaska, and the company of cherished friends. Everywhere he went Wayne made friends whether it be his neighbors, coworkers, or the receptionists at his doctors' offices, he brightened people's day with his gentle demeanor, kind smile, and jovial laugh. His absence will be greatly felt by many.
Wayne is predeceased by his parents Norman McLaren and Cathryn Bentley, three brothers, Earl, Robert, and Donald McLaren, and his sister Norma McLaren. Wayne is survived by two sisters, Cathryn Stilson of Flint, MI, and Shirley Lundy of Durand, MI. As well as Adrienne Austin, of Eagle River, AK and Alexis Austin of Forest Hills, NY who were like daughters to him. Along with many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Wayne's Memorial Service will be on July 30 at 12pm at the Eagle River Lions Club, 18344 Eagle River Road. Reception to follow.
In lieu of flowers, we ask that you donate to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Wayne's memory. Wayne was a strong charitable supporter of St. Jude for many years and really believed in the work that they do.
