Wayne Armas Mietty

Wayne Mietty, beloved husband, father, grandfather, friend, and passionate educator passed away peacefully on Friday, December 19, 2025, surrounded by family. He is survived by his wife Sandy, his children Tim (Jennifer) and Tammy (Leo), and his grandchildren Brian and Marissa.
Wayne lived a life as an adventurous man of the outdoors that would give any Jack London protagonist a run for their money. Whether hiking a 14er in the Rockies, skiing in the La Platas, golfing with his father, swimming in Lake Erie or water skiing at Navajo Lake, Wayne was most likely to be found outdoors if he was not teaching one of his many classes. Family and faith were key pillars of Wayne's life; he was always eager to get his family outside with him on the slopes or at the lake, and was an active member of his church community, serving on the church council. As an educator, Wayne took great pleasure in sharing his passion for science, especially botany, through many years of service as an elementary school teacher in Ohio and New Mexico, continuing to work as a substitute teacher long after retirement, with students of every generation having a fond recollection of "Mr. Mietty".
Wayne's memorial service will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church, 1221 E. 20th St. in Farmington, NM on Saturday, January 3, 2026, at 2:00pm. In lieu of flowers, Wayne would ask that donations be made to Trinity Lutheran Church, or Farmington Regional Animal Shelter.
