Robert (Bob) Quebman, long-time resident of San Juan County, passed away peacefully on January 14, 2026, following a brief illness. Bob joins his beloved wife, Fern Quebman, who passed away on September 26, 2013.

Bob and Fern were both born in May of 1929. Throughout his early years, Bob lived in Chicago, Glen Ellyn, Libertyville, West Frankfort and Mattoon, Illinois. Bob attended both the University of Illinois and the Citadel in South Carolina before serving in the United States Navy.

Fern was born in Canada, but became a naturalized American citizen as an infant. Fern was raised in Chicago, Illinois and attended the Latin American Institute before working as a bi-lingual secretary in Chicago.

Bob and Fern met in the Chicago area, and in March 1951, formed a beautiful, life-long marriage and partnership. Together, they built a successful construction company in Glen Ellyn, Illinois in which Bob acted as contractor and Fern took care of the books and other aspects of the business.

After many successful years in Illinois, Bob and Fern decided to relocate their business to San Juan County, NM so Bob could pursue his dreams of farming and skiing. In 1973, they bought a farm along the Animas River and began farming and raising cattle along with re-establishing Quebman Construction. Robert Quebman Construction was responsible for the building and remodeling of many homes and commercial buildings across San Juan County from 1973 through the mid 1990's when they retired to a life of travel, skiing and fishing.

When Fern became unable to travel in 2009, Bob became her devoted care-giver until she passed away in 2013. Bob would not hesitate to tell you "I had the best wife ever". Bob continued to farm, and in the last years before his death found great satisfaction in creating beautiful hand-made birdhouses and other crafts.

Bob and Fern Quebman's lives were intertwined for sixty-two wonderful years. Together, they built a family, a business and a life-long friendship. They gave true meaning to the words, "Until death do us part".
