Wayne Randion, 74, of Toms River, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, on June 23, 2025. He was born on January 17, 1951, in Paterson to Richard and Theresa Randion. Wayne was the second oldest of four children. He received his education in Paterson, attending Schools 4 and 15, and Eastside High School, ultimately graduating from John F. Kennedy High School in 1969.
After high school, Wayne attended an electronic training school, focusing on the emerging technologies of that era. He worked for Bogue Electric in Paterson, NJ, and held various mechanical jobs. In January 1971, Wayne was drafted into the United States Army and served in Vietnam. He was honorably discharged in March 1972.
From 1975 to 1980, Wayne worked for NJ Transit for a short period. He was then hired by the Paterson Fire Department on August 11, 1980, and was promoted to Captain on September 21, 1991. During his time as a firefighter, Wayne was a proud member of Bronze Heat, the Paterson chapter of the International Association of Black Professional Firefighters. He was deeply committed to the organization's mission of promoting diversity and inclusion within the fire department. Through his involvement, Wayne mentored aspiring firefighters, supported community outreach events, and served as a dedicated role model, championing equity, service, and unity.
In addition to his work at the fire department, Wayne often took on odd jobs, which included painting, electrical work, driving limousines, and even compassionately removing animals from people's homes. Due to his diverse skill set, he was commonly referred to as the "jack of all trades," as he had the ability to fix almost anything. Wayne retired from the Fire Department on February 1, 2007.
After retiring from the fire department, Wayne moved to Toms River, where he lived for the remainder of his life. During his time there, his Catholic faith deepened, and he became part of a loving community at St. Joseph's Catholic Church. Wayne could often be seen attending daily mass. Although he resided in Toms River, he never forgot his North Jersey roots and would frequently make the trip back to the Paterson/Clifton area each week. In retirement, Wayne dedicated his time to serving others, volunteering at his church, local homeless shelters, and retirement communities. He was always eager to lend a hand, offering guidance and support to those who needed it most. Each week, he made multiple stops to check on individuals in need, never hesitating to show up with kindness and compassion. Those who knew Wayne can easily recall a moment when he stepped in to help, often without being asked. He never turned away anyone who needed his assistance. Friends, family, his spiritual church parishioners, and community members will always remember the countless times he stepped in without hesitation.
Wayne was a devoted father to his daughter, Jannelle Randion, and his son, Christopher Randion, along with Christopher's wife, Sonja. He was always willing to lend a hand and could often be found making repairs and helping with various projects around their homes. Wayne was deeply committed to his grandchildren and played an active role in their lives. He wholeheartedly supported them, attending their school and sporting events, as well as sharing in everyday moments with unwavering love and pride. His encouragement and dependable presence were treasures that each grandchild cherished. One of Wayne's greatest joys was simply spending time with them. He was a proud and loving grandfather to Nana, Chelsea, Hunter, Parker, Milla, Nyziah, Samorah, and Destiny, and a cherished great-grandfather to Shai. Additionally, he was a caring uncle to Johnny, Bryan, and Riley.
Wayne is survived by his siblings: Dolores McGuire and her husband John, Kim Randion and his wife Angie, and Richard Randion. He shared a deep bond with his extended family and remained close to many of his cousins. Wayne was a loyal and thoughtful friend who deeply valued the people in his life. He offered kindness, support, and a listening ear to both old and new friends, always making time for those he cared about. He was also a dedicated member of his church family, where he found fellowship and purpose through service and spiritual connection. Wayne was preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Theresa Randion.
