MIDDLETON – Wayne Raymond, 91, of Middleton, formerly of Beverly, passed away Friday morning, June 14, 2024, at Bear Hill Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Stoneham. He was the husband of Lillian (Lucci) Raymond. Born in Beverly, he was the son of the late Wilber and Victoria (Woodbury) Raymond. Wayne was educated in the Beverly Public Schools and graduated from Beverly High School with the class of 1951. He furthered his education by attending Brown University and graduating with a bachelor's degree from Boston University. Wayne continued his schooling by earning a master's degree from Salem State College.
Wayne entered the United States Coast Guard and was discharged early from the military, so he could help fulfil the teacher shortage during that time.
Following his discharge, early in his teaching career he worked at Weaver High School in Hartford, CT. After working in Connecticut, he continued as a dedicated teacher for Briscoe Middle and Beverly High Schools in Beverly for thirty-five years.
Wayne enjoyed and had many hobbies over the course of his life. He loved the ocean and was an accomplished sailor. He was a talented golfer, squash player as well as an avid hiker. Wayne found great joy in being a Tennis coach for many years. Lillian and Wayne spent many years traveling together, which they both truly enjoyed.
In addition to his wife Lillian, with whom he shared fifty-two years of marriage, he is survived by three sons, Gordon Raymond and his wife Carol of Northfield, NH, Ian Raymond and his wife Carol and Andrew Raymond all of Sanbornton, NH; seven grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; two sisters, Elisabeth Sweeney and Andrea Stackpole both of Beverly; two brothers, William Raymond of Beverly and Barry Raymond of Wenham; one brother-in-law, Edward Colbert and his wife Virginia of Melrose and many nieces and nephews including, Karen Cronin and her husband James of Reading and Kristina Colbert Lourie and her husband David of Brookline, Edward Colbert III of Hingham, Paul Lucci, William Lucci and his wife Carla all of Revere and Mark Lucci and his wife Maria of Westford.
His graveside funeral service will be held at Puritan Lawn Memorial Park, 185 Lake Street, Peabody on Tuesday, June 25th at 11:00 am. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Contributions may be made in Wayne's memory to the Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758516, Topeka, Kansas 66675-8516. Arrangements by the Campbell Funeral Home, 525 Cabot Street, Beverly. I remember Mr. Raymond and Miss Lucci from Briscoe junior high school back in the early 70s. Mr. Raymond was my science teacher., Always enjoyed his classes
I can remember when those two started dating. All the kids were whispering about it..
Both him and his wife were very nice people that I can always remember.
