In Loving Memory of Wayne William Schultz
Wayne William Schultz, aged 85, departed unexpectedly on Wednesday, November 15th, leaving behind a legacy of love and cherished memories. He is survived by his beloved wife, Jane, and their two adored daughters, Julie (Michael) Erickson and Kimberly (Darin) Haack. Wayne's grandchildren, Elizabeth and Devin Erickson, and Emily and Genevieve Haack, will forever cherish the warmth and kindness of their grandfather.
Born on September 30th, 1938, Wayne was the son of William and Sylvia Schultz, growing up in Chicago alongside his sister, Vicki (Santoro). Wayne excelled both academically and on the soccer field at Lane Tech College Prep High School. His passion for learning led him to Valparaiso University in Indiana, where he majored in business, paving the way for a successful career as a stockbroker. Following his college years, Wayne dedicated a chapter of his life to serving in the United States Marine Corps as a captain. It was during this time that he discovered his love for skydiving and the water.
Eventually, Wayne made his way to
Cedar Rapids, Iowa, where he met Jane, the love of his life. Together, they embarked on a journey that led them to Algona, where Wayne continued his career as a stockbroker and became actively involved in the Kiwanis and United Methodist Church. Wayne found solace in the tranquility of floating at Smith Lake and took great pride in his green thumb, tending to his yard and garden with care.
Wayne, a man of few words, spoke volumes through his actions. His culinary skills were legendary, and his love was expressed through his delicious creations. His trademark phrase, "Only 5 more minutes," spoken over the course of 30 minutes, became endearing to his family. Wayne's support for his daughters was demonstrated through simple gestures, like loaning a dollar or leaving out piles of change, silently conveying, "I am a 24-hour ATM machine."
As his daughters grew up, his excellent racquetball skills became a playful way to vet potential suitors on the court. Julie and Kimberly will forever hold dear the question, "Have I told you lately that I love you?" a poignant reminder of Wayne's deep and unconditional love.
Wayne William Schultz leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and a life well-lived. Wayne's grandchildren will never forget the example he set, showcasing selflessness, love, happiness, and an appreciation for all the blessings in his life. He will be dearly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Graveside services will be 2 pm Saturday, November 18th at Riverview Cemetery in Algona.
