Wayne Lawrence Simpson, Jr

Wayne Lawrence Simpson, Jr, 86, passed from this life September 25, 2023.  He was born in Jackson on August 11, 1937, to proud parents Wayne Lawrence Simpson, Sr. and Katherine Virginia Adcock Simpson of Jackson where Wayne spent most of his life.

Wayne's journey through life was marked with dedication, passion, and countless cherished memories.  He attended high school in Utica.  After completing his education, Wayne embarked on a fulfilling career that spanned 39 years with the Jackson Police Department. He dedicated himself to the service of others, working tirelessly to ensure the safety and well-being of his community. His commitment did not go unnoticed as he rose through the ranks and retired as a Lieutenant—an achievement that reflected his professionalism and unwavering dedication.

Wayne's passions went beyond law enforcement; he had a passion for restoring antique cars. These cherished vehicles fueled his passion for attending and participating in car shows across the state.  In addition to being an avid car enthusiast, Wayne found solace in watching NASCAR races and college football—thrilling experiences that captivated his heart.

While Wayne excelled in his professional pursuits, his true pride and joy resided in his family. Married for 52 blissful years to Carol Brewer of Jackson. Together they built a beautiful life filled with laughter, love, and shared memories that will forever be treasured.  A devoted father, Wayne cherished every moment spent with his daughter, Shanda Sandridge of Brandon.   He had the incredible joy of being a doting grandfather to Anna Katherine Wilson and Haiden Elise Sandridge. The moments he spent with his family were precious, filled with storytelling, laughter, and endless love. His legacy will live on through them as they carry forward his spirit and values.

Wayne always looked forward to the weekly lunches at Fat Tuesdays with his beloved car buddies. These cherished gatherings allowed him to reconnect with friends, share stories, and revel in the camaraderie that bound their passionate souls together.  Among his proudest accomplishments was his role as a past president of the Antique Car Club of MS. Through this position, he left a mark on the antique car community, fostering connections and promoting the rich history of these timeless vehicles.

Wayne is survived by his loving wife Carol Simpson, who provided constant support and unwavering love throughout their journey together. His daughter Shanda Sandridge will hold his memory dear in her heart always. Carmen Morrison, his devoted sister, will forever be grateful for their special bond. Wayne's beloved grandchildren Anna Katherine Wilson and Haiden Elise Sandridge will carry forward his legacy with pride.

The Funeral Service will be Friday, September 29, 2023 at 1:00 pm with a visitation from 11:00 am until the hour of service at Chancellor Funeral Home in Byram. Interment will follow the service at Jessamine Cemetery in Ridgeland.
