Wayne Weikert Obituary

Wayne Weikert, a resident of Annapolis, MD passed away on Saturday, November 16 at home surrounded by his family after a battle with brain cancer. Wayne was born in Baltimore, MD to the late Daniel and Helen Weikert. He graduated from Severna Park High School and attended Virginia Tech where he received his Masters in mechanical engineering. He was a co-op student at David Taylor Research Center in Annapolis and returned to work there until transferring over to the Naval Surface Warfare Center (NSWC) Carderock's David Taylor Model Basin. Prior to retiring, he served as Deputy Department Head, Signatures Division for 4 years. Upon his retirement, he was presented with the Department of the Navy Meritorious Civilian Service Award for "outstanding meritorious service for and significant contributions to the United States Navy." He was a loving, generous, and devoted husband, father, uncle, and friend. The highlight of his life was becoming a father and raising his daughter, Alexis. He was a true Marylander who loved nothing better than spending time and sharing laughs with family and friends over some steamed blue crabs. His favorite places were anywhere near the water, be it boating or the beach. Wayne enjoyed traveling with his wife Sylvie, learning about new things, and playing golf and pickle ball. He was also a devoted Virginia Tech Hokie fan. Wayne was a wonderful man who will be greatly missed by all those who loved him. He is survived by his beloved wife of 34 years, Sylvie Kramer Weikert and his loving daughter, Alexis Weikert. In addition to his parents, Wayne was preceded in death by his brother, Daniel Weikert, Jr. Friends and family are invited to a Memorial Mass at St. John Neumann Catholic Church, 620 N. Bestgate Rd., Annapolis, MD on Saturday, November 23 at 11 am followed by a memorial gathering in Seelos Hall. I worked with him and David Taylor and he was funny, and always made the work fun.

Many memories of Holidays spent together with Wayne. His mother and mine were sisters. He loved to tease his Mom and mine. His smile and easy laugh are fond memories.
