Richard Clark Obituary

Richard (Dick) M. Clark II, 78, of New Hampshire, passed away peacefully on January 28, 2026. He was born February 23, 1947 in Lowell M.A. to Richard Martin Clark and Ruth Preston Clark while the family was residing in Portsmouth, N.H.

After moving several times as a child, Dick graduated from Goffstown High School in 1965, and served in the U.S. Army Medical Corps, completing active duty during the Vietnam era and continuing service in the Army Reserves. He attended the University of New Hampshire and Virginia Tech, where he earned his doctorate in Nutritional Sciences. He spent decades at the University of Connecticut (Storrs) as a professor, researcher, and advisor, finding his greatest professional joy in teaching and mentoring students, a commitment recognized with both university and national teaching awards.

He is survived by his wife of nearly 57 years, Janice King Clark; his daughter Amy Clark Feldman and her husband Greg; his son Richard M. Clark III and his wife Jessica; and his grandchildren Benjamin, Samuel, Adalyn, Kenneth, and Amelia. He was predeceased by his brother James and is also survived by his brother and sisters, John, Eleanor, and Beth; and many beloved nieces and nephews.

Throughout his life, Dick found great joy in music, running, nature, coaching, volunteer service, and stewardship of family homes. Above all, he cherished time with family and was known for his quiet joy, selflessness, humor, humility, and deep faith, which guided his life and inspired those he loved.

Services will be held at 2pm on Friday, February 6th at the Buckminster Chapel of the J. Verne Wood Funeral Home in Portsmouth N.H., with visitation beginning at 1pm. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Middle Street Baptist Church, 18 Court Street Portsmouth, N.H. 03801 (https://www.middle.st/give), or The Inn at Deerfield at 34 Ridge Rd, Deerfield, N.H. 03037 (innatdeerfield.org).
