Welcome Smith – Shaffer (nee Breeding), age 99, of Germantown, Ohio, passed away Saturday August 30, 2025, at New Lebanon Healthcare Center, with loving family by her side. She was born in Preble County, Ohio, on December 29, 1925, daughter of the late Belle (Moore) and James Franklin William "Frank" Breeding. Welcome was a 50-year member of the former Evangelical United Brethren (E.U.B.) Church in Germantown, and a former member of the Germantown Methodist Church. She was a very accomplished artist. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband of 34 years Robert Smith in 1976, and her second husband of 9 years Edward Shaffer in 1990; a son Bruce Smith in 2018; a grandson Matthew Smith in 1981; her siblings, David, Curtis, Everett, Velma, Frank, James "Wiseman", and "Bus" Voyce, Virginia "Ginny", Lloyd, Ethel, and Beulah. Welcome is survived by her children, Beverly (James F. "Bo") Willis, Robert (Julie) Smith, Brian (Jami) Smith, and Bradley Smith; 12 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; 12 great-great-grandchildren; her sister-in-law, Shirley Breeding; numerous nieces and nephews. A Visitation will be held 10:30 a.m. – 12 p.m., Tuesday September 9, 2025, at the Dalton Funeral Home, 6900 Weaver Road, Germantown, Ohio, where the Funeral Service will follow at 12 pm., with Pastor Gary Wheeler officiating. The burial will be at Germantown Union Cemetery. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Carol Fessenden ~ a special health aide of 9 years, for her compassionate care.
