Weldon Odell Campbell 75 passed away peacefully on the evening of January 25th in Tyler Texas surrounded by his wife and son. Weldon was born January 20th, 1949 to Windell Odell Campbelll and Martha Nell (Wooten) Campbell in Greenville, Texas. He graduated from Greenville High School in 1967 and would go on to graduate from East Texas State University in 1971. He would work as a teacher/coach in Mt. Pleasant and also Argo and Winfield through the 70's. He would briefly work at The Boat Dock in Mt. Pleasant before becoming a heavy equipment mechanic at Texas Utilities Winfield mine in 1982, where he remained until he retired in 2004.
He would meet and marry the love of his life Huella (Taylor) Campbell in 1968. The couple recently celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary. He is survived by his wife Huella, son Kyle, daughter-in-law Katie, and grandchildren Emma, Hank, and Levi Campbell, all from Mt. Pleasant. His sister Paula Jacks of Waco, and nieces Lacy Theobald and Lauren Jacks. He is also survived by his Aunt Lois Campbell of Leesburg, Aunt Winona Foley of Garland, Uncle Joe and Aunt Linda Campbell of Benton, Arkansas, sister-in-law Linda Green and nephew Bryan Green both of Live Oak, and a host of extended Campbells and Wootens scattered near and far.
Weldon loved camping, fishing, woodworking, cooking outside with his family, but mostly spending time with his grandchildren. He loved telling stories about his friends and co-workers at the mine, and he relished each time he saw an old student.
The family would like to thank the staff of the wound care center at TRMC, Chambers Home Health, the staff of Fresenius Center in Mt. Pleasant, and Doctors Paul Merriwether and Frank Nevetta for outstanding care giving over the years.
Weldon will be dearly missed by all that knew him, a visitation will be held from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Monday, January 29, 2024 at the Bates Cooper Sloan Funeral Home. Services will be held at 1:00 PM Tuesday, January 30, 2024 at the First Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers the family asks that you consider a donation to the First Baptist Church's Kid First program.
