Weldon Vaughan passed away on November 17, 2025, after a courageous battle with liposarcoma complicated by heart disease. He was born September 5, 1940, to Irene (nee Simmons) and Sterling Vaughan in Altus, Oklahoma - the youngest of five children.
Weldon graduated from Altus High School in 1958. He was a very proud Altus Bulldog and attended every five-year reunion. He continued his education at Southwestern State University in Weatherford, Oklahoma and graduated in 1964 with a BS in Pharmacy. As a registered pharmacist, he worked at pharmacies in Edmond, Oklahoma; Tyler (Goode's Pharmacy); Dallas (Skaggs, Albertsons and Tom Thumb); and Fredericksburg (Walmart). He loved being a pharmacist and practiced for over 51 years. He enjoyed connecting with patients, providing solutions to their ailments and being a trusted resource.
In Weldon's senior high school annual, he was voted to have the "Prettiest Smile". He certainly lived up to that honor throughout the years - ?always happy, always smiling. During his 85 years, he loved to fish, hunt, run and exercise, read, grow onions and a myriad of other vegetables, plant trees, play with the dogs and travel. Weldon also cherished his happy hours on the porch on the weekends with good bourbon, a great cigar and a fine meal. He had the heart of a storyteller and was an expert at animating characters, voices and dialects. He knew the words to all the songs and had a great voice. He could, and would, still sing his elementary school fight song and remained friends with many of his childhood pals. Travel was very special, and he and Patt had the opportunity to see the U.S., many countries, and enjoy several cruises. One of Weldon's fondest memories was a trip to Kenya, Africa a couple years ago with Patt and his extended family.
Weldon is survived by his loving wife and steadfast companion of 43 years, Patt Hintenach Vaughan; his children, Michael Vaughan of Colorado and Angela Vaughan Edwards and her husband, Greg, of Bulverde, Texas; and his sister, Elsie Lee Vaughan Landram of Chester, Texas. He is also survived by nieces Stephanie Brater, Kristi Walker, Leesa Dewalt, Michele Smallwood and Sherry Smallwood; nephews Brad Walker and Grady Smallwood; sister-in-law and brother-in-law Barbara and Duayne Harrison and sister-in-law Heidi Hintenach. In addition, he will be deeply missed by the many, many friends he acquired throughout the years.
Weldon is predeceased by his parents; his sister, Loreta Faye Walker and her husband, Buddy; his sister, Sue Smallwood; and his brother, Charles. He was also predeceased by his brother-in-law, Jim Landram. Weldon had a deep affection for all of his brothers-in-law.
A Life Celebration to commemorate Weldon's memory will be held for family and friends at a later date. Should you wish to make a donation in Weldon's memory please send to:
