Wendell Connolly Obituary

ZANESFIELD – Wendell H. Connolly, 79 of Zanesfield, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and a cherished member of the community, passed away peacefully at his residence on Dec. 16, 2025 following several months of failing health. Born on Feb. 13, 1946 in Bellefontaine, Wendell was a graduate of Triad High School, completing his education in 1964.

Wendell devoted nearly 30 years to his career at TRC as the second person hired, demonstrating unwavering commitment and diligence throughout his professional life. He was also proud to be the third generation to operate the family's award-winning Maple Syrup business, a tradition rich in history and family values.

In addition to his professional accomplishments, Wendell served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War, displaying honor and courage in service to his country. After his military service, he continued to give back to the community by being a faithful blood donor to the Red Cross for many years.

Wendell was an avid fisherman and found joy in the simple pleasures of life, often sharing this love with friends and family. His warmth and generosity will be remembered fondly by those who had the privilege of knowing him. As a member of the West Mansfield Methodist Church, he was a cherished participant in the life of his community, extending kindness and fellowship to all who crossed his path.

Wendell is survived by his loving wife, Shirley (Lane) Connolly, whom he married Sept. 5, 1987 in West Mansfield; a daughter, Suzanne (Jeff) Farmer of Port Clinton; sons, Mike (Jenni Whittington) Alspaugh of Marysville and Jim (Kristi) Alspaugh of Kenton; grandchildren, Jenna (Marcus) Foster and Megan Alspaugh; great-grandchildren, Brooklynn and Walker; step-grandchildren, Barrett and Cameron Jones, Sam Gerstenberger and Kage Lowe; sisters, Betty Mowrey of Urbana and Sheila Grimes of Columbus; along with numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Opal (Collinsworth) Connolly and brother-in-law, Charles Grimes.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, Dec. 20, 2025 from 10-11 a.m. at the West Mansfield Methodist Church, 212 E Center St., West Mansfield. A Celebration of Wendell's Life will immediately follow at 11 a.m. at the church with Pastor Tim Burden officiating. Burial will take place at a later date in the Greenlawn Cemetery. Memorial contributions can be made to the West Mansfield Methodist Church, Ohio's Hospice or the American Red Cross.
