Wendell Roger Harris, age 83, passed away on Thursday, August 21, 2025, at Clark Regional Medical Center in Winchester, Kentucky. He was born in Holly, Kentucky, on July 20, 1942, to the late Trulan Harris and the late Josie Hatton Harris. Wendell proudly served in the United States Army, where he developed a deep sense of dedication and discipline that shaped his life. After his military service, he embarked on a fulfilling career at General Motors, where he worked in assembly. Above all, Wendell cherished his role as a devoted father, showering his children with love and guidance throughout their lives. As a grandfather, his heart swelled with pride and delight, creating countless treasured memories with his grandchildren. An outdoor enthusiast at heart, Wendell found joy in the tranquil pursuits of hunting and fishing. He relished the peaceful moments spent camping alongside his wife, surrounded by nature's beauty. Furthermore, he had a passion for yard sales, relishing the thrill of discovery, and he took immense satisfaction in nurturing his vegetable garden, where he watched his plants bloom and thrive. With a heart full of kindness and an infectious sense of humor, Wendell loved to joke around, often filling the room with laughter and joy. He was a generous soul, always ready to lend a hand or share a warm smile, known for his selflessness and willingness to give the shirt off his back. Wendell’s legacy will forever be that of a truly kind man, leaving an indelible mark on the lives of everyone he encountered. In addition to his parents, Wendell is preceded in death by one son: David Harris; three brothers: Joe Harris, Ernest Harris, and Delmer Harris; and two sisters: Mildred Robinson and Shirley Smith. He is survived by his wife, Virginia Harris; one son: Rick (Heather) Harris of Selma, Indiana; two daughters: Stephanie (Norman) Preston of Versailles, and Sherry Caldwell of Grand Rapids, Michigan; one brother: Stanley (Rachel) Harris of Stanton; one sister: Betty Amerine of Cold Spring; four grandchildren: Norah Preston, Steven Caldwell, Tyler Caldwell, and Brady Harris; and two great-grandchildren: Mia Caldwell and Macie Caldwell. Visitation will be held from 12:00 P.M. to 1:00 P.M. on Monday, August 25, 2025, at Hearne Funeral Home, 125 West College Avenue, Stanton, Kentucky. Funeral services, officiated by Darrell Billings and Randall Price, will be held immediately following visitation at 1:00 P.M. Burial will be held at Evans Cemetery in Campton with Brady Harris, Steven Caldwell, Stan Harris, Nathan Harris, Eddie Harris, and Darrell Billings serving as active pallbearers. Arrangements have been entrusted to Hearne Funeral Home of Stanton.
