Wendell Schaan, 91, of Ray, ND, passed away Thursday, January 9, 2025, at the Benedictine Living Center, Garrison.
Wendell was born November 22, 1933, to Wendell and Magdalena (Heit) Schaan. He was raised on a family farm in Norwich, ND. His family moved to Foxholm, ND, where he attended school.
Wendell enlisted in the United States Army and was stationed for a time in Texas. Upon his return, he and a friend went to California, where he worked briefly for an aircraft MFG.
He returned to North Dakota and was once married to Beverly Ann Smith. They were blessed with four children. Their family moved to California then to Oregon several times. Wendell would work as a mechanic, bartender, along with being an owner and operator of several businesses over the years. Finally settling in Ray, ND, in his later years.
His loving family includes: children, Sacia (Raz) Logan, Steve (Gerolyn) Schaan; grandchildren, Manda Schaan (Adam Ruben), Joey Schaan (Ashley Dhuyvetter Schaan), Hannah Schaan, Blaine Schaan, Akira (Jon) Essler, Kearney Logan; great-grandchildren, Van Schaan, Micha Baker, Jude Ruben, Symon Ruben, Fox Essler, and Tate Schaan; brother, Dennis (Delores) Schaan.
He was preceded in death by his parents; ex-wife, Beverly; sons, Stewart and Scott Schaan; grandson, Kale Schaan; brothers, Ralph, Julius, Walter, Fred, Joe, Louie, and Frank Schaan; and sister, Rose.
Funeral: Tuesday, January 28, 2025, at 11 a.m. at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, Minot.
Inurnment will take place at a later date.
In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred.
