Wendy Booth Alday

Wendy Booth Alday, age 68, passed away peacefully the morning of August 9, 2025. She was born October 19, 1956 and her story was remarkable for the many adventures, accomplishments and people in her life.

A fourth generation Booth, Wendy was descended from Levi Booth, an attorney who purchased the "Four Mile House" in 1864. The Four Mile House was the last stage stop four miles outside of Denver, CO for settlers traveling west during the gold rush and her family was instrumental in helping to settle Colorado and much of the west. This pioneering spirit was not lost on Wendy who spent much of her young life traveling, partaking in a bicycling tour of Europe as a teen and briefly living in San Francisco, CA. At the urging of her brother, Matt, who was stationed at a coast guard base in Malone, FL., Wendy decided to move in with him bringing only a handful of belongings in a 1972 Chevrolet pickup with the help of her brother-in-law, Jerri. Upon arriving, Wendy found the lands she was destined to settle. She would go on to raise a family and build a coalition of like-minded, eccentric and wonderful friends whom she would support and be supported by over the years.

Wendy graduated Magna Cum Laude from Troy University and would go on to work for the State of Florida as a case worker for HRS. She dedicated herself to helping children who had been victims of abuse and/or came from troubled homes to help them find stability and worked with their parents and guardians on how to re-build their families. After her time with the State, Wendy would go on to work at Wal-Mart in Marianna, FL, where her natural gift for loving and talking to people flourished and earned her the respect and admiration of the community.

Wendy loved many things in life: a good book, good music, travel, a glass of wine, a hot bath, wonderful friends and being right. But, more than any of that, she loved being a mother. Her life was at its brightest raising her two sons and guiding them so they could become strong and independent like her. Even in adulthood, her sons often sought her council and would consider her a close friend in addition to being their mother. Wendy also had a very special relationship with her grandson and was affectionately known as "Gramma." Wendy also treasured her recent granddaughter who will be told stories of her "Gramma" for years to come.

Before she passed, Wendy spoke of looking forward to seeing her parents, Levi and Myrna Booth and her brother, Matt Booth who preceded her in death. Her two older sisters, Terri Mead (Jerri Mead) and Peggy Hickham (Robert Hickham), provided countless support to her over the years from across the country and were invaluable to her during her long battle with cancer. If there was something Wendy couldn't take care of, her sisters sure could. Wendy's light will also continue to shine through her most remarkable accomplishments, her two sons, Adam Herring (Madison Standifer) and William "Lee" Herring (Kimberly Chandler) and her two grandchildren, Aldous and Naomi Herring.

A celebration of life will be 10 A.M., Friday, August 15, 2025 at Marianna Chapel Funeral Home with Chaplain Gino Mayo officiating.

The family will receive friends for a time of visitation from 9:30 A.M., until the time of service at Marianna Chapel Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, the family would request donations be made to some of Wendy's favorite charities, the ACLU, Doctors Without Borders and Partners for Pets. Wendy would also like for you to give someone you love, a hug and tell stories about each other.
