Wendy Sue Belonga, 55, of St. Ignace, Michigan, passed away Sunday, January 1, 2023, at her home after bravely battling cancer for two years. She was born on March 10, 1967, in Sheridan, Michigan, to Judy Emma (Diem) Little.
In 1985, Wendy graduated from J.W. Sexton High School in Lansing, Michigan, and pursued a very successful career in the restaurant industry which eventually led her to accept a management position at a Chi-Chi's in Heidelberg, Germany. She moved to St. Ignace in 1996, where she met her husband, Cliff Belonga. They married on October 9, 1999. She was active in the St. Ignace community; often volunteering for community and school events. Wendy spent 10 years running the beloved local establishment, The Village Inn, where she made many friends and lots of good food.
She is survived by her parents, Judy and Tom Sweet of Moran; her husband, Cliff Belonga of St. Ignace; daughter, Peyton Belonga of St. Ignace; brother, Bobby (Barb) Little of Portland; father-in-Law, Dale Belonga of St. Ignace; bother-in law, Bill (Nisa) Belonga of Naubinway, Michigan; as well as several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her aunts, Beverly and Shirley; and her mother-in-law, Delina Belonga.
A Memorial Gathering will be held at Galer Dodson Funeral Home in St. Ignace, on January 13, 2023, at 12:00 Noon, with services to follow at 1 PM.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to the Ovarian Cancer Research Alliance, P.O. Box 32141, New York, New York 10087-2141.
