Wendy Schweigel Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Feller & Clark Funeral Homes - Auburn on Jun. 29, 2025.
Stryker, OH – Wendy Sue Schweigel, 65, passed away Friday June 27, 2025 in Stryker, OH with her family at her side at the family home she still shared with her sons. She was born in Auburn on October 28, 1959 to James and Rosella (Healy) DePew.
Wendy graduated from Dekalb High School. She later moved to Ohio where she was a dedicated stay-at-home mom to her four children. She never missed the opportunity to explain to others that she had four babies in four years time and that we were a handful. She was a fun mom that played with her kids and almost never enforced a bedtime. She had an open door policy for all her kids' friends, making her home the loud, fun place to be and to hang out when we were growing up. At one point, there was a ping pong table smack dab in the middle of the dining room instead of a dining room table, and that was just the kind of mom she was.
She had a passion for animals, and she shared that passion with all her kids, driving them to and from dog training classes and dog shows much of their childhood. For a short time, she bred Cocker Spaniels. Later, she spent a lot of time as a dog rescuer, had adopted a pack of coonhounds and hound mixes from various animal shelters, and when her house was full up, she spent the last decade enjoying the dogs she loved and crossposting, sharing, and donating to shelter dogs. She enjoyed crocheting, sewing and many other crafts. From blankets, to clothes, and dolls to homemade holiday home and yard decorations, she created so many thoughtful, fun, beautiful and absolutely treasured works of art. Wendy had a love for music and gifted her children with the many memories of her singing around the house, first to them while they were young, and then when her kids thought they were too grown for silly songs, she sang to her dogs.
For many years, Wendy kept and grew a vegetable garden and she tended to her flowerbeds. She planted many fruit trees at her home while her kids were young, always thinking of and ahead about what she could do for and give and leave behind to her children.
She was a wonderful grandma and great grandma. There were a number of foster grandchildren that came and went that she welcomed into the family with open arms. When she was able, she loved attending her grandkids' various sport activities and 4-H shows at the fair. In more recent years, she painstakingly created crocheted stuffed animals, bags, and blankets for all her grandchildren and great grandchildren, and was even working on baby blankets for her grandchildren's future children. She knew she couldn't take care of her family forever, but she certainly tried.
Surviving are her parents James and Rosella DePew of Auburn; 2 sons and 2 daughters, Dustin James Schweigel of Stryker, Ohio, Derek John Schweigel of Stryker, Ohio, Tasha Jane (C.J.) Grieser of Archbold, Ohio and Tessa (Dustin) Tewksbury of Stryker, Ohio; 6 grandchildren, Mason Tewksbury, Garen Tewksbury, Arminda Tewksbury, Maybellee Grieser, Charlie Grieser and Alecea Grieser; 3 great grandchildren, Emmie, Aspen and Nova; siblings, Melody Kitt of Garrett, Dan (Nelly) DePew of Wolcottville, and Lisa (Terry) Schaffer of Auburn.
Services will be 2 PM Wednesday July 2, 2025 at Feller and Clark Funeral Home, 1860 Center Street, Auburn, IN 46706 with burial to follow in Cedar Creek Cemetery, Auburn. Calling is 2 hours prior to the service from 12 to 2 PM at the funeral home Wednesday. Because of Wendy's love of dogs and the work she did with them, the family ask's that in lieu of flowers memorials be given to the DeKalb County Humane Shelter. Wendy was a fantastic loving grandmother to me and my cousins. She would always buy these popsicles for whenever we came over. Me and all of our family will miss her very much.
