Wesley Dean Hinz MD

Dr. Wesley "Dean" Hinz was born on April 11, 1952. He was born in Clinton, Oklahoma
to Margie Hinz (Rawlings) and Emil Hinz. He raised on the family farm in Corn, Oklahoma,
where he learned the value of hard work. Dean graduated from Washita Heights High School
and went on to Southwestern Oklahoma State University where he studied Pharmacy. He did
so well in school, that he was accepted to the University of Oklahoma Medical University, he
graduated from there, in 1978.
Dean met Marilyn "Kay" Hinz (Waldrup) working in surgery at St. Francis Hospital In
Tulsa, Ok. He married Kay on March 25, 1978, in Claremore, Ok, at the First Baptist Church of
Claremore. They both lived in Tulsa, Ok for several years continuing to work at St. Francis.
They moved to Ponca City, Oklahoma after a few years, where Dean opened his own medical
practice. While living in Ponca City, Dean and Kay had two children. Kelli (Hamilton) and
Christopher. Kelli is married to Mike Hamilton with four step-children; Peighton, Alyssa,
Dylan and Logan. Christopher is married to Susan Hinz (Strick) with two children; Elise and
Paige.
Everyone moved to Oklahoma City, Ok in 1993. Dean worked for several medical
organizations in the metro area including Integris Baptist and Norman Regional. Dean was
well-known for his compassion, knowledge and care. Also, for his ability to talk and rock on
his feet. He was able to get whole rooms and individuals, rocking with him, when he talked.
Dean was recognized as Family Physician of the Year from the Oklahoma Medical Association.
His 42 year career ended at Norman Regional Hospital in 2020, when he retired.
Dean's life was filled with vacations, reading, gardening, children and his pet
schnauzer, Abby. He was always on a quest, to gain more knowledge to help in every aspect
of life. He loved olives and Diet Dr. Pepper. But, more important, he loved helping everyone
he could. Whether, it be his family or his patients. He gave his whole heart to everything and
expected nothing in return. His smile, laughter and voice infectiously filled a room, with his
good nature spirit. Dean will be greatly missed by family and friends. He passed on July 12,
2023 at Mercy Hospital in Oklahoma City.
