Wesley Squires Sr., 89, of Otway, passed away on Thursday, September 22, 2022, at Carteret Health Care.
His memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, October 15th at Graham Memorial Pentecostal Holiness.
Wesley was born on December 13, 1932, in Pamlico County, North Carolina, to the late Staley and Della Squires. Honorably serving in the United States Army, Wesley bravely served his country during the Korean Conflict. Following his honorable service, Wesley worked diligently to provide for his family, working at General Dynamics and later at Cherry Point. His family meant the world to him and even with a busy schedule, he always made time for each of them, including Boy Scouts with his son Tex. Wesley also was a charter member of the Volunteer Fire Department in Otway.
Wesley faithfully attended Graham Memorial Pentecostal Holiness Church where he was a dedicated member. With his source of strength rooted in the Word of God, the scriptures came to life for him as he read the Bible which nurtured his soul.
He is survived by his children, Deborah Squires of Otway, Wesley "Tex" Squires Jr. and wife Grace of Mount Holly, and Paula Ipock and husband Edward of Beaufort; sisters, Mildred Mills of New Bern, Roselle Sumerall of New Bern, and Sharon Frye and husband Roger of Conover; grandchildren, Edward Ipock Jr., Paul Ipock, Kimberly Squires, and Wesley Squires III; and great-grandchildren, Everly Love Ipock and Avacyn Vale Squires.
In addition to his parents, Wesley was preceded in death by his soul mate, true love of his life, his wife of 61 years, Nelva; along with his sisters, Peggy Squires, Estell Beal; and brother, Johnny Squires.
