Gene had a big heart and was always willing to lend a helping hand or share one of his stories. He loved Jesus, his wife Sarah, and his family and friends.
Gene served twice in the Army including being stationed in Germany after WWII as a Military Policeman guarding the office of Military Government in Berlin. He was awarded the Army of Occupation Ribbon and the World War II Victory Medal.
Gene worked for Ford Motor Company in Cleveland, Ohio for 25 years. He retired in 1988 to Lexington, South Carolina.
Gene is predeceased by his wife, Sarah Jane Waldrep of Lexington, SC. He is survived by his daughter, Shayne Waldrep Hardee (Joey Hardee) of Lexington, SC; daughter, Sharon Waldrep Rogers (Kelvin Rogers) of Lexington SC; four grandchildren: Jesse Rogers (Hunter St Laurent Rogers), Cassidy Rogers Bassie (Braxton Bassie), Wessli-Ann Hardee Singleton (Zack Singleton), and Alyx Hardee; and sister, Janie Waldrep.

The family wishes to express their love and appreciation to his dear friends, Pastor Kenny Stafford and Debbie Stafford, and Glenn and Teresa Cornett who have supported and loved Sarah and Gene over the years. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made to Harvest Hope Food Bank.

We are so sorry to hear about the passing of your father Gene. He was a wonderful guy! My dad Jim Wilson worked for Gene at Ford. He always stayed in touch with my dad. Our thoughts and prayers are with his daughters. He had a very special family! Tammy Rice

This is Jim Wilson of Brook Park Ohio. My son Jimmy was asking about your dad today wondering if I had spoken to Gene lately. He looked up your dad's name and we were very saddened by the passing of your dad. Your dad was a wonderful man and was one of my best lifelong friends(your mom too). We miss your wonderful mom as well. Our prayers go out to all of you. May God's comfort give you all peace.
