Wilbert "WJ" Joseph Chenevert Jr. (1951-2025)
Wilbert Joseph Chenevert, 73 of Simmesport, LA, passed away on January 8, 2025. Wilbert was born in Simmesport, LA on November 25, 1951, the son of Wilbert Sr. and Corrine Dupont Chenevert.
Wilbert is remembered as a kind, easy-going man with a unique soul and a good heart; as a man who spent his life helping carry the burdens of everyone around him, in whatever ways he could, always with a wide smile on his face.
Wilbert began his career as a field engineer with Welex before finding his calling in writing software. Recognizing how technology could help make the jobs of field engineers easier, he played a key role in engineering Haliburton's first computer-based well logging system. His long career was spent both further evolving systems he helped build and leading the next generations of developers. Even after retiring, he continued contributing to the development of Haliburton's field data acquisition systems as a consultant.
Throughout his life, Wilbert strove to be a true partner for his wife, Cheryl Chesne Chenevert. While Wilbert and Cheryl were the oldest couple Father Jose' of St. Micheal Church had married at the time of their wedding in 1998, their 26 years of marriage exemplifies that love is truly worth the wait. From helping her out in Math in high school where they met, to helping raise Cheryl's son from her previous marriage, to filling their home with more smart devices than they could ever need, Wilbert's priority was always to help Cheryl, share a comfortable and fulfilling life with her.
He is survived by his wife of 26 years, Cheryl Chesne Chenevert; brother, Larry Chenevert (Jeannie); sisters, Dr. Connie Chenevert Mobley (Roy) and Brenda Chenevert Hughes (Jimmie); Step-son, Frank Purpera M.D. (Becky).
He is preceded in death by his father, Wilbert Chenevert Sr.; mother, Corinne Dupont Chenevert.
