Wilbert Layne went to be with his Lord and Savior, and joined his loved ones in Heaven on September 28, 2025, in Weatherford, TX.
Graveside Service: 1pm Saturday October 4 at Long Creek Cemetery 5410 Temple Hall Hwy Granbury, TX 76049
For anyone wishing to send flowers of remembrance, the family requests that these be delivered before close of business Friday October 3 to Browning Funeral Home 116 Wheeler St Weatherford.
Wilbert was Born on July 16, 1938, in Blossom, TX. He Was Raised by His Mother, Ollie Layne-Loveless, and Henry “Claude” Loveless. At the age of 14, Wilbert moved to Lubbock, TX, Where he began working as a bricklayer and earned the nickname “Jr.” Because he was the youngest among the workers.
While in Lubbock, He met the love of his life, Elaine Hall. They married in Lubbock and were married for 64 Years Until Her Passing in 2023. Together they had two children, Dinah Layne Aaron and Stephen Lee Layne. From Lubbock the family moved to east side Fort Worth. They raised their children and welcomed everyone into their home. They bought a large ranch in Cresson and spent many years there. Wilbert was proud of his trade as a bricklayer. He also enjoyed owning racehorses and Jersey dairy cows. He loved his family & friends tremendously.
Wilbert was preceded in death by his parents, Ollie Layne-Loveless and Henry “Claude” Loveless; his beloved wife, Elaine Layne; his children, Dinah Layne Aaron and Stephen Lee Layne; and his siblings, Jimmy, Evelyn, Dorothy, Virgil, and Janie.
He is survived by his brother, Scott Loveless, and Wife Jodi; grandchildren Brittany Boner-Jones, and Husband Sye, Chelcie Jessup and Husband Eric, Stephenie Layne DeLozier and Husband David, Troy Aaron, and Stephen “Bubba” Mele; and great-grandchildren; Shelby Mele, Brayden McClendon, Erin Jessup, Austin Layne DeLozier, Layton DeLozier, Casen DeLozier, and Tavin DeLozier.
Wilbert’s presence brought joy to those around him, and his legacy continues through the family & friends he cherished so much.
