Wilbert Roberts

Wilbert Roberts was born on November 25, 1941 to the late Elsworth Roberts and Betty Williams Roberts in Edgecomb, North Carolina.
Wilbert attended Edgecomb public schools, completing the sixth grade. He was a farm worker until 1959 when he relocated to Newark, NJ. Upon moving to New Jersey, he held several positions as a fabric and garment cutter, working for designers Pierre Cardin, Evan Piccone and Sumergrade & Son. After 15 years of working in the garment industry he began working as a bus driver for Coach USA where he worked until his retirement in 2005.
It was at Sumergrade & Son in 1961 Wilbert met Beanie McCray. After several years of courting, they married on July 7, 1965 in Sumter, South Carolina. From this union they had three children Sabrina, Angela and Keith. In 1972 they purchased their current home at 11 Monroe Ave., East Orange, NJ.
Wilbert's favorite past time was bowling. He bowled in several leagues on the weekends and enjoyed traveling to bowling tournaments in Buffalo, NY, Cleveland, OH and Rochester, NY. Wilbert achieved avid bowlers dream of bowling the perfect score of 300 at Palladium Lanes in Orange, NJ.
Wilbert was preceded in death by his daughter Angela Roberts in 2018.
He leaves to cherish his memory his wife of almost 60 years, Beanie Roberts: two children Sabrina Roberts and Keith Roberts (Teryn); Grandchildren; Nile Howard, Jadin Roberts and twins Ace and Ross Roberts.
