Wilbur Lee Herrin, Jr., 85 years old passed away unexpectedly on August 1, 2025 at his residence.
He was born in Hartford City to Wilbur Lee Herrin, Sr. and Violet Fay (Spence) Herrin. His parents preceded him in death.
Wilbur graduated from Hartford City High School in 1958. He married Gayle Lynn (Hahn) on November 18, 1972.
He enjoyed simple things in life and mowing his yard was one of his enjoyments. He started early with lawn cutting as he had a lawn mowing business in high school. He farmed most of his life and enjoyed watching things grow. He loved to drive and was a tractor trailer owner and operator. He formerly worked at Miller Trucking in Gas City and formerly was a supervisor at T.W.O Furniture. He also loved woodworking and ran Herrin Wood Products for several years.
Wilbur enjoyed model trains and steam engines, he went to great lengths to watch a train race down the tracks. After retirement he was promoted to head babysitter for his grandsons.
He was a member of the Teamsters Union and formerly served on the Farm Bureau Board of Directors for a few years.
Wilbur will be sadly missed by his wife, Gayle Lynn Herrin of Hartford City; daughters, Ginger M. (husband, James) Roth of Hartford City and Holly Lynn (husband, Robert) Czykoski of Fort Wayne; grandchildren, Andrew (wife, Brianna) Roth, Justin Roth, Matthew Prough, Christopher Prough, Ethan Prough and MaDream Morlan; 2 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Wilbur and Violet Herrin, his first wife, Mary Karen (Miller) Herrin and brother, Johnnie Lee Herrin.
Visitation for Wilbur will be from 3 to 7 PM Friday, August 8, 2025 at Keplinger Funeral Home, 509 N. High St., Hartford City
There will be no service at this time and Wilbur's wishes were to be cremated. The family will plan a private burial of cremains at a later date.
Memorials may be made to Donor's Choice.
