Wilbur Ray Idom was born on January 1, 1942, to the late Oran and Adean Idom in Forest, Mississippi. He took his sweet, peaceful rest from this life to be with the Lord on Sunday evening, September 7, 2025. Wilbur was educated in the Scott County and Harrison County Public School systems and graduated from North Gulfport High School. He also attended Mary Holmes College, “The Eagle,” and received his AA degree in 1963. Wilbur loved bowling, basketball, dancing, going to the gym, watching sports, family reunions, school reunions, and helping others. He worked at Reynolds Metals Co. and Addus Home Care.
After graduating from Mary Holmes College, he moved to Chicago, IL, and married his college sweetheart, Susie. He remained in Chicago until his death. Wilbur’s church home was Living Word Christian Center in Forest Park, IL, under the leadership of Pastor Bill Winston.
Wilbur was preceded in death by his parents, Adean and Oran Idom; three brothers, Henry Earl Idom, Oliver Columbus Idom, and Charlie Frank Idom; one sister, Lula Mae Wilson; two sisters-in-law, Minnie Lee Idom and Barbara Idom; two nephews, Sullivan Jerome White and Henry Earl Idom, Jr.; one niece, Sharline Crawford; and a grandniece, Brittani Janai Idom.
Wilbur leaves to cherish his memories, one daughter, Ayana Idom, Chicago, IL; one brother, John Thomas Idom, Gulfport, MS; three sisters, Dorothy J. White and Georgia M. Idom, both of Gulfport, MS; Dorothy Collins, Tampa, FL; a sister-in-law, Ercill Idom, Gulfport, MS; three cousins who were by his side: Delia, Tony and Jalen Martin all of Chicago, IL; as well as a host of caring and loving nieces, nephews, other relatives, friends, bowling friends and co-workers.
A visitation for Mr. Idom will be held on Tuesday, September 16, 2025, from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm, at IJ Cannon Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, September 22, 2025, at 11:00 am, at Mount Pleasant United Methodist Church. Visitation will start at 10:00 am.
