Willard Dove Obituary
Willard Dove, age 84, passed away peacefully on November 29, 2025, in Wilmington, North Carolina. Born on August 3, 1941, in Bladen County, Willard led a life marked by dedication and service.
He honorably served his country in the United States Air Force. Following his active-duty service, Willard continued his dedication to the nation in the United States Navy Reserve, retiring on November 1, 1996, as a Yeoman First Class (YN1) with the enlisted rank of E-6. In addition to his military career, he devoted many years to the United States Postal Service, from which he also retired.
Willard was a valued member of his community, having been actively involved with the American Legion for 50 years. He also dedicated half a century to the Masons, where he attained the esteemed rank of Master Mason.
He was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Artie Pitman Dove and Thadious Fowler Dove; his brothers, Ernest Dove and Cranford Dove; and his brother-in-law, William Smith Johnson Jr.
Willard is survived by his devoted wife of 60 years, Jane Dove; his daughter, Rachel Dove; and his son, John Dove. He is also survived by his three sisters, Helen Bryant, Margaret Hardee, and Jeanette King, as well as his sister-in-law, Gracie Weber Johnson. He leaves behind many other beloved family members. Willard was especially devoted to his three grandchildren, Lainey Dove, Aubrey Dove, and Brooke Dove, who were the light of his life.
A private graveside service will be held at Greenlawn Memorial Park to honor Willard's memory. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in his name to St. Matthew's Evangelical Lutheran Church.
Willard Dove will be remembered for his unwavering dedication to his family, his community, and his country. His legacy of service and love will continue to inspire all who knew him.
