Granby- William M. "Bill" Abar, 89, passed away on December 16, 2023. Bill was born in Winchendon, MA on July 7, 1934 to the late Harold and Lucy (Stone) Abar. As a young man, Bill proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam war era. Following his honorable service, Bill began his carpentry career at Fontaine Brothers, and later with Johnson Acoustics prior to retiring. Guided in life by faith, Bill was a communicant of Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Granby. Bill took great pleasure in going to tag sales and spending time with his family. Bill cherished the many trips he and his wife, Alice, took over the years, traveling to places like the Grand Canyon, El Paso, Alburquerque, and Maine.
Bill will be dearly missed by his wife of 65 years, Alice (Chartier) Abar, and their sons, Alan Abar and wife Denise of Washburn, ME, and Kevin Abar and wife Shawn of Woodbridge, VA. He also leaves his grandchildren, Jessica, Jamie, Jennifer, Jackie, Benjamin, and Joshua; as well as his great-grandchildren, Colt, Logan, Rowan, Gwendolyn, Elena, Dahlia, Emily, and Olivia. Besides his parents, Bill was preceded in death by his brother, Hank Abar.
The family would like to thank the hospice team for the compassionate care that was provided to Bill. Donations in Bill's name can be made to New England Hospice Partners in Care 190 Old Derby St. Suite 304 Hingham, MA 02043.
A period of visitation will be held on Thursday, December 28th from 8:30-9:30am. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10am at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church with burial to follow in West St. Cemetery.
