William Robert Ackerman Jr., 87, entered into eternal rest Monday, September 22,2025. He served in the Air Force from 1959 – 1963.Bill spent several years in the Aerospace Industry in Washington state, New Mexico and California. He was the design engineer for Weaver Scopes in El Paso, Texas. Bill worked flight safety at White Sands, New Mexico and was involved in Ronald Regan’s Star Wars program. He owned Optical Services Co. which was an after market custom shop for accuracy shooters and was one of the best AAA shooters of his time. Bill enjoyed racing cars, camping, fishing, boating and golfing. In his spare time, he enjoyed riding dirt bikes in the desert of El Paso and surrounding areas, building dune buggies and making his own tobacco pipes.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Nancy K. Ackerman, his daughters Michelle Ackerman, Cheryl Lynne Warring ( husband Dave) , Jeanine Cicchetti ( husband Jimmy), his grandchildren Christopher and Kathryn Warring and Jared Cicchetti. His sister Jan Bowman and her daughters Ginger Bowman and Jennifer Losch.
In lieu of flowers, The Ackerman family encourages donations to the Alzheimer’s Association.
His Graveside Service will be held at 11:00am on Tuesday, October 7, 2025 at Fort Bliss National Cemetery.
