William Alvarez Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Richardson Funeral Home - Marion on Dec. 15, 2025.
William Andrew Alvarez (81), born September 16, 1944, passed away surrounded by those who loved him. He was the beloved husband of Betty Driggers Alvarez and a devoted father to Karen Watts (Donnie) and Kathie Boatwright (Wyman Sr.).

William was the son of Joseph Carew Alvarez and Maryann Robinson Alvarez, both of whom preceded him in death. He is survived by his brother, Joseph Carew Alvarez (Billy Alvarez), and his sister, Mary Lynn Jones (Charles Jones).

A proud grandfather, William leaves behind five grandchildren: Wyman Boatwright Jr. (Kasey), Brianna Pearce (Alan), William Andrew "Drew" Boatwright (Laura Bryn), Trey Watts (Callie), and William Watts "Ty." He was also blessed with five great-grandchildren: Yates Boatwright, Wells Pearce, William Andrew Boatwright, Jr. "DJ", Briggs Pearce, and Rocker Watts.

William attended the Methodist Church in Marion, South Carolina, where his faith was an important part of his life. He worked for many years as a Foreman in the Paper Department at WestRock Paper Company, formerly known as Stone Container, where he was known for his strong work ethic and leadership.
He most enjoyed spending time with family and friends. When he wasn't fishing, he could be found proudly watching his grandchildren play sports-moments that brought him great joy.
The family will hold a Celebration of Life at the Driggers family river house, officiated by Minister Scott Collins.

William will be remembered for his dedication to his family, his love of the outdoors, and the steady presence he was to all who knew him. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
