Obituary published on Legacy.com by Whitehurst-Powell Funeral Home & Crematory on Jun. 17, 2025.
It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that the family of William "Bill" Barnhill aka Uncle Bill announces his passing on June 11, 2025, at the age of 83. Bill was born in Tallahassee, Florida to parents Eubanks Barnhill and Roselle Cobb Barnhill in 1942. Both of his parents, brother Stephen and his wife Patricia Mossor Barnhill preceded him in leaving this world. He is survived by daughters Rosalyn "Roz" Barnhill (Kim Carlisle), Renee' Barnhill, Lana Barnhill Parker (Clint Parker) and Laura Barnhill (Jess Barnhill). Grandchildren Kaila Parker, Kaleb Parker, Rilee and Reese Filbert. Others who were close to Bill are Joy Mathis, Susan Bozeman, Herbert John Carter, Jamie Foster, Mark and Dorla Tyson, Mike Tyson and Jason Westberry.
The list of others who were close could go on for pages. He was blessed to have so many friends both men and women but to say that he was a man's man is an understatement. Being surrounded by so many incredible people was his favorite pastime, oh the stories, smiles and Robert Service poems. Thank you to all who enriched his life.
Bill's family homesteaded in Baker during the late 1800's which he took great pride in. He frequently boasted that he had planted over a million pine trees in his lifetime. His love for family, friends and community ruled his daily existence. He was involved in many projects and organizations such as Foxwood Country Club, Crestview Rotary Club, Baker Area Recreational Association, Old Spanish Trail Rodeo, Gum Creek Sportsman Club, Mike Meeks Charity and Long Branch Farms but that is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to his accomplishments and dedication to improving life in North Okaloosa County.
Bill was an avid hunter and fisherman; he never turned down the opportunity to get out and follow his passions. This allowed him to travel all over the country and most importantly spend time with his family and friends. He always looked forward to his annual sojourn to Alaska. His culinary skills were top notch, especially with the wild game and fish that he harvested. He wasn't afraid to try new recipes and was constantly expanding his repertoire. He was very generous and kind, frequently hosting holiday meals at Gum Creek Lodge for all who would come.
His funeral will be held Thursday June 19th 12 pm until 2 pm at Whitehurst-Powell Funeral Home 436 W. James Lee Blvd
Crestview, Florida. His final resting place will be Griffith Cemetery.
A Celebration of Life will be held Friday June 20th 4pm at Gum Creek Lodge 5741 Buck Ward Rd Baker, Florida
