William Bastedo Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by The Wood Mortuary, Inc. - Greer on Jan. 17, 2025.
William "Bill" Bastedo, of Greer, South Carolina, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Thursday, January 16, 2025. He was born and raised in Saginaw, Michigan. He was born to the late James Ray Bastedo and Loretta Yarmuth Dean. Bill was a graduate of Carrollton High School, Class of 1966, where he played baseball. He retired from General Motors, Saginaw Steering Gear, where he worked as a quality operator.
Bill had a deep passion for golf, whether playing or watching the game. He shared this love with his grandsons and nephew, Mark Bastedo. In his younger years, Bill was an active member of the Carrollton Volunteer Fire Department during the mid-1980s and also enjoyed playing softball for many years. However, his greatest joy in life was spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Bill's sense of humor was one of a kind and will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
Bill is survived by his devoted wife of 58 years, Barbara Bastedo; two daughters, Debbie Bastedo Gubbins of Pinconning, Michigan, and Cathy Ashworth (Bob) of Greer, South Carolina; a sister, Sharon Jewell of Oceanside, California; three grandchildren, Christy Hovey (George), Nicholas Ashworth, and Andrew Ashworth; two great-grandchildren, Marshall and Finnan Hovey; and many nieces and nephews.
Bill's legacy will live on in the hearts of his loved ones, and he will be missed dearly.
Mr. Bastedo was predeceased by a sister, Peggy Hubbard.
A Memorial service will be held 2:00 p.m. Sunday, January 19, 2025, at The Wood Mortuary Chapel in Greer conducted by Dr. Rick Ezell.
